At the beginning of Term 3, we were incredibly fortunate to welcome the IKEA team to our school to transform a room in our ECEC Block into a beautiful new Sensory Room.
This project has been approximately 18 months in the making and began through our partnership with 54 Reasons/Save the Children, who negotiated and facilitated this wonderful opportunity for our school.
A very special part of the process was having several of our students involved in the design of the room, supported by some of our school mothers and Principal Lesley Barrett. Their ideas and input helped create a space that is welcoming, engaging and responsive to the needs of our students.
The Sensory Room is now used every day to support students who may need assistance to transition, regulate and unpack their emotions and feelings. It also provides a calm and supportive space for students experiencing grief and loss, as well as those navigating other challenges in their lives.
The room is a truly beautiful space, with calming colours, engaging animals, comfortable chairs and thoughtful presentation throughout. It has created a warm and inviting environment where students can feel safe, supported and able to take the time they need.
We are incredibly grateful for this opportunity and for everyone who played a part in bringing the Sensory Room to life.
